STREET TO SCHOOL

Street-connected children are often drawn to urban areas by the chance to find work, which can include everything from rag-picking to working in small industries, selling goods, or domestic service. This lifestyle deprives them of essential childhood needs, like education, proper nutrition, and recreation. Many who do enroll in school face significant challenges, often dropping out due to a lack of parental support, inadequate school resources, and social pressure.

In response, the Street to School project was launched in 2021 with the mission of enrolling and retaining street-connected children in local government schools. The project provides a comprehensive support system that includes:

  • Home and school visits

  • Teacher training

  • Parent meetings

  • Remedial education

  • Life skills workshops

This approach has been highly successful, leading to an exponential increase in beneficiaries each year. In 2024, Street to School reached over 400 direct and indirect beneficiaries. Currently, the project is educating more than 200 children across various slum communities in Dehradun.
